Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Information Society and Telecommunications, Vujica Lazovic, PhD, held a meeting with the representatives of non-governmental organizations and associations with which the Ministry for Information Society and Telecommunications cooperated in the previous period. The subject of the meeting was: 'Models of involving the NGO sector in development of information society in Montenegro'.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Information Society and Telecommunications, Vujica Lazovic, PhD, said inter alia:

The Ministry of Information society and Telecommunications has established a very good cooperation with a significant number of non-governmental organizations in the previous period, through several projects. More specifically, it established cooperation with 51 non-governmental organizations or associations of citizens. I think that this number in itself speaks about our willingness and openness for cooperation with the NGO sector. I would emphasize, in this context, that we have donated more than 200 computers to non-governmental organizations during the last and this year, through the implementation of the project National PC program. This was a direct step towards the increasing of the level of digital literacy in Montenegro. In doing so, we have helped the work of non-governmental organizations, because a number of them are not in a position to provide a quality IT equipment which is necessary for their work. We are especially looking forward to very good and continuous cooperation with organizations bringing together people with disabilities. This cooperation took place through several jointly implemented projects. I consider this very important in the overall process of building the information society in Montenegro, especially the segment related to e-inclusion, as an urgent and topical issue. Montenegro, i.e. our Ministry takes the leadership compared to all other countries in the region regarding the issue of e-inclusion, according the evaluations we receive from the European experts. However, we will not stop at this. We plan to implement a series of projects in this direction. Information technologies provide many opportunities for establishment of close cooperation between the state and citizens, they facilitate communication, make it interactive and two-way. The services that we develop, and which are electronic, inevitably change our everyday lives and our work. Therefore, they concern all of us. That's why we have defined the subject of the meeting in this way, because we want to talk about the models of involving the NGO sector in projects of this type, with the aim to make them as good and accessible to most of our population as possible. Your initiative and your suggestions are very important to us, so that we could exactly at this stage think about further steps in the way of building the information society. We think that the NGO sector really has something to say on this subject and that your suggestions may be very useful. Non-governmental organizations, especially a number of you, you can affect the affirmation and promotion of digital literacy, as a necessary precondition for development of a modern society, through the projects you work on. The Ministry for Information Society and Telecommunications is indeed at your disposal and we will respond with pleasure to your initiatives in this regard, as we have been doing until now, after all.

Also, it has been concluded at this meeting that the existing cooperation has been evaluated as successful, and it should be continued in the following period. Also, the Ministry for Information Society and Telecommunications is open to the initiatives of the NGO sector in the process of building the information society. We also expect the inclusion of other entities from the NGO sector in the process of building the information society.
